As part of our Black History Month celebration, THE POETRY SPOT revisits one of the first major events that helped shape this platform. Conscious Content was originally curated during my college years in partnership with Barry University, taking place on campus as a space for truth-telling, cultural reflection, and unapologetic expression. What began as a student-led collaboration grew into a powerful gathering that centered Black voices, lived experiences, and socially aware art.

This Lauderhill edition honors that legacy—while embracing the full spectrum of who we are.

At ON THE B SIDE, we have always made room for it all: the raw and the refined, the playful and the political, the personal and the profound. Our tagline, Ratchet to Revolutionary, isn’t a contradiction—it’s a continuum. It reflects the range of Black expression and the freedom to show up exactly as we are, whether the poem makes you laugh, think, feel, or all three.
