Join Georgia Philharmonic on an interplanetary musical journey as we conclude the 2023/2024 season with Holst’s groundbreaking work, "The Planets", accompanied by video and images from NASA and other leading space agencies.Holst was inspired by the importance of the planets in Roman and Greek mythology and ultimately composed a work of seven movements, each of which is named after planet of the solar system and its astrological character. Holst described this work as a “series of mood pictures” each evoking a different idea and emotion: Mars—the destruction of war; Jupiter—jollity and patriotism; Venus—peace; Mercury—fluidity and volatility; Saturn—the wisdom of old age; Neptune—infinity of space; and Uranus—the magic of the cosmos. Used as inspiration for the soundtrack to popular films such as Star Wars, this is a season finale you won’t want to miss!
