Nearly everyone in America is touched by someone with breast cancer, including so many amazing survivors in our own studio! I am celebrating Our survival by spearheading the 12th annual "Pink Party" in Augusta. It's our way of helping our local oncology physicians and staff to support those with breast cancer and their families/ caregivers throughout the CSRA.
One important focus of this event will be on the caregivers.
You see, I was one of "those" patients. When someone asked me how they could help, no matter how much I needed it, my smiling response was, "I can't think of a thing." I've met so many other women and men undergoing treatment who would do the same rather than ask for help. Many caregivers take on a thousand extra tasks without complaint. But it is exhausting.
It occurred to me back in 2012 that a gift card would be incredibly wonderful for those evenings where family members felt overwhelmed. Being able to drop by and pick up a great meal to take home would be a real treat and one less burden to accomplish. A round of golf, spa treatment, and recently, grocery gift cards have become essential. Many other things would be a surprise and a welcome respite, too. We know that taking happy breaks restores the soul and helps us to withstand the fear and suffering a loved one is undergoing. We will also gladly accept donations of items for our silent auction.
My goal is to present hundreds of gift cards to the nurses stations(because we all know that the nurses have their finger on the pulse of the room) through the proceeds of the silent auction to our local treatment centers. They'll be able to give those cards at random times to lift the spirits of patients and their families. How cool is that?
Those contributing gift cards will be acknowledged during our event. And I know that everyone who receives your contribution will be very grateful.
Doors open at 8:00 PM and admission is $25 in advance/ $30 at the door
