A note from Adrian describing the experience that awaits us!!When I was a teenager, I got really into progressive rock, a genre known for long songs. 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 40 minutes... heck, why not 70 minutes? Why not make the whole album one song? These displays of self-indulgence and excess found a comfortable home in my adolescent brain; when classical music came into my life, I was well prepared. Hour long symphonies? No problem. 15-minute piano works? Nothing to it. I was excited to lead my audience with me down many a meandering but cohesive musical journey.
After a few performances of a 40-minute long Schubert piano sonata, I came to realize that this type of music is not everyone's cup of tea. Around this time, I got the idea of a concert made up solely of shorter pieces - good things in small packages, brevity being the soul of wit and all that. Limiting myself to short pieces allowed me to explore new musical territory and I'm very proud of the eclectic programme I've assembled. I am sure you will find something you like. And if there's something you don't like, don't worry - it won't last long. See you there!
