Few hip hop crews have shaped the 90s with as much ease, creativity, and unique flow as The Pharcyde. With their iconic second album “Labcabincalifornia”, they set new standards in 1995 and made history in West Coast rap. Now, they’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of this classic and bringing their unmistakable vibes to Vienna’s WUK!
Founded in Los Angeles, The Pharcyde rose to fame in the early 90s with their debut album “Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde” (1992). With humorous, introspective lyrics and jazzy beats, they offered a fresh alternative to the gangsta rap sound that dominated at the time. “Passin’ Me By” became a classic and remains a staple of hip hop’s Golden Era to this day.
In 1995, they followed up with “Labcabincalifornia”, another masterpiece known for its deep, soulful sound and the iconic production of J Dilla. Tracks like “Runnin’” and “Drop” showcased their musical evolution and are considered milestones of the genre. The influence of this album is still felt today and continues to inspire generations of artists.
