About this Event
This event is intended to complement the ongoing International Court of Justice (ICJ) climate advisory proceeding, aiming to amplify frontline voices and influence the Court's advisory opinion by synthesising these insights into a comprehensive document which will then be presented on behalf of civil society inside the Court.
By creating a space for the voices of those most impacted by the climate crisis to be heard, the People’s Assembly ensures that the legal outcomes align with the will and demands of the people. Public support and participation are essential not only for raising awareness of key issues, but also for generating political pressure, which can create an environment conducive to a strong and favourable advisory opinion. In a time when the stakes of climate change are life-altering, the People’s Assembly will remind decision-makers that the power of public engagement and solidarity must guide the path for the future.
With the People’s Assembly, we hope to send a powerful reminder to member states, decision-makers, and the public of the necessity to align legal outcomes with the will and demands of the people. In a time when the stakes of climate change are life-altering, The People's Assembly asserts the power of public engagement and solidarity.
