Step back in time and meet three generations of Portland's prominent Longfellow and Wadsworth families! Known popularly as the childhood home of the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the house at 485 Congress Street nurtured numerous creative souls and notable characters whose stories are often overshadowed by their famous relative. From the dawn of the early republic through the end of the Victorian era, mathematicians, painters, poets, homemakers, lawyers, and generals all called this house home.Join us for an evening of meeting the members of the household "face to face" and learn about the thriving and ever-changing world of the Portland Peninsula from 1786 to 1860. Guided by candlelight, guests are invited to stroll the house at their own pace and interact with the different family members on hand to tell their stories.
