What was the Pennsylvania Long Rifle, and why was it important?
Introduced in the early 1700s, this weapon allowed early European settlers in Pennsylvania and surrounding areas to hunt more effectively, and later to better combat the English in the Revolutionary War. With its groundbreaking "rifling", it was far more accurate over long distances than previous firearms.
Also known as the Kentucky Long Rifle (thanks to Daniel Boone) this revolutionary weapon was deeply intertwined with technological and social developments - the evolving charcoal iron industry and the growing German population of PA.
Doug Plance will be joining us to talk about the long rifle and demonstrate some of the materials used in its construction. We hope you'll join us to learn more about it!
