About this Event
On Sunday, November 16, Detroit instrumentalists Tbone Paxton (trombone/vocals) and RJ Spangler (percussion) rally their Paxton/Spangler Septet to Moondog for a hope and inspiration-fueled matinee performance honoring the vernacular of South African jazz.
Spangler and Paxton are longtime friends and collaborators who first began working together in 1980 as members of the Sun Messengers. As the Paxton/Spangler Septet, they explore compositions by South African composers like Abdullah Ibrahim, Hugh Masekala, Miriam Makeba & Chris McGregor.
Joining them on-stage on this occasion is Phillip J. Hale (piano), Dan Bennett (tenor sax), Dominic Bierenga (alto sax, flute), Trevor Lamb (bass) & Brad Billmaier (drums). We’re thrilled to welcome these seven players to Moondog and hope you’ll join us for their big sound ringing true.
Doors for this show will open at 4pm with music beginning at 4:30. Tickets are available in advance and at the door on a $10-$20 sliding scale.
