Sharpen your chess skills with individualized instruction for beginner to intermediate players, and pair up with chess enthusiasts at a similar skill level for friendly matches. The Pawn Project is a youth initiative of the nonprofit Shenandoah Valley Chess Club. It aims to help youth in grades K-12 grow from pawns into powerhouses!
October's Special Guest: Surfi Ahmed
Surfi is an Arena FIDE Master (AFM)- a wonderful chess accomplishment! He has played competitively since middle school and built a strong reputation as both player and coach. After facing GM Maxim Dlugy in a simul at Washington Square Park, Surfi impressed him and was later hired as a coach. He is known for his talent in working with youth, many of whom rank in the top 20 nationally and statewide. He carries forward The Pawn Project’s mission by fostering critical thinking, discipline, and confidence through chess—on and off the board. Surfi will soon open his own academy in Northern Virginia.
