About this Event

Welcome to The Passage Between - Root Digging event!

Join us on Wed, Oct 02, 2024 at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm in Dallas for a unique experience like no other.

The Passage Between is known as the liminal stage by which the initiate is at the threshold of gathering information and understanding the necessary skills for the next phase of life.

  1. The Sacred Scrolls with Delmetria Milner of the Teen Writers Youth Project, A Literary Art Exhibit
  2. The Roundtable of Youth and Elders, Moderated by Michelle Gibson, Grand Mashall of the New Orleans BookShop: Elders, Youth and Remembering Apprenticeship: A Community Conversation Mark your calendars and get ready to embark on The Passage Between - Root Digging with us!

Introduction of the Digital Map - Led by the South Dallas Parent Coalition, we are reaching out to the elders, educators, knowledge holders, and grassroots organizations to create a digital map of the current movements in our city from the perspective of the people who live here. The map will highlight elected leaders and some of these stakeholders in their districts, and help people find their elected officials and learn what they do. Please submit YOUR information to the by September 12th!

Our goal is to acknowledge, from the lived experiences of citizens, who some of the most valuable contributors to our communities are, and literally ‘put them on the map,’ a map that will live on long beyond the week of action. We will highlight elected leaders, their roles, and districts as well as the elders, educators, knowledge holders, and grassroots organizations protecting both rites and rights to create a digital map of current movements in our city.

It is our hope the map will be used by elected leaders to find the often unacknowledged leaders in their districts, and for movements and people to find their elected leaders and gain a better understanding of their respective roles in the democratic process. Together, we will take a deep dive into the competition created by scarcity and where it dilutes the potential for a healthy democracy.

This event is part of Dallas’ Cultural Week of Action - a collaboration between South Dallas Parent Coalition & Iv Amenti sponsored by Race Forward. To learn more about this event and other events like this please visit ritesnow.org or email [email protected].
