Rat poisons K*ll rodents—but also raptors that eat them. Anticoagulant rodenticides cause deadly internal bleeding in hawks, owls, and other birds of prey. Dr. Mark Schocken, an environmental chemist and photographer, discovered a Great Horned Owl family in a Safety Harbor park. When the owls died from rodenticide poisoning, he and other photographers helped form Safety Harbor Strong Owls & Nature Facebook Group to raise awareness and urge action. In this photo-filled talk, Mark shares the owls’ story and the dangers of rodenticides.Photo: Dory, a Great Horned Owl, in wing stretch. Photo: Mark Shocken
