The Origins of Maldon: An archaeological talk by Maria MedlycottA talk by Senior Historic Environment Consultant, Maria Medlycott, looking at the archaeological evidence for the origins and medieval development of Maldon town. This will highlight the results of a number of excavations (both old and new) that have taken place within the town and discuss how they contribute to our understanding of the town.
Maria Medlycott has nearly 40 years' experience of the archaeology of Essex, working with the Essex County Council Archaeology Team. She started her career in Essex excavating in advance of the development of Stansted Airport. She undertook the Historic Towns Surveys for Essex, which comprised reports on the archaeology and history of 31 towns, including Maldon. She has been responsible for providing archaeological advice to Maldon District Council for nearly 20 years.
