About this Event
Live the Race. Build the Legend. Support the Next Generation.
The Older & Wiser Pinewood Derby was created to reignite the thrill of racing handcrafted pinewood cars down the track. This time it’s for those of us who have aged out of our Scout years but never lost the passion, or for those who never had the opportunity to race one at all. Whether you spent years perfecting your own derby cars, now find yourself helping the next generation chase victory lane, or are finally getting the chance to build and race for the first time, this event puts the excitement of racing back where it belongs: in your hands.
This derby is an open invitation to makers, designers, builders, DIY enthusiasts, parents and grandparents ages 16 and up, especially those who’ve never had the chance to race a car of their own. Now’s your moment.
Best of all, this event is held in support of Cub Scout Pack 83. Proceeds from the Older & Wiser Pinewood Derby help fund scouting activities, programs, and experiences for local youth ensuring the tradition of creativity, craftsmanship, and friendly competition continues for years to come.
While this event benefits Cub Scout Pack 83, it is not a sanctioned Cub Scout or Scouting related event. The event is hosted at American Legion Post #703 and organized by volunteers from Pack 83, the Sons of the American Legion, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Because the event is not officially affiliated with Scouting, all participants are asked not to wear any official Scouting uniforms, apparel, or logos. Photography and video recording are welcome; however, no images or videos may include official Scouting gear or branding. Participants who arrive wearing Scouting apparel will be asked to remove it.
With the advantage of being Older & Wiser—and armed with better tools, skills, and advanced creativity—we’re raising the stakes. Competitors can build cars to race in three distinct classes, all open to anyone:
- Scout Class
- Modified Class
- Unlimited Class
While racers must be 16 years or older (with no upper age limit), this event is open to spectators of all ages, making it a fun and exciting experience for families and fans alike.
We invite—and challenge—you to build a car (or cars), line up at the starting gate, relive the excitement of Pinewood Derby Racing, and support a great cause at the same time. The track is ready. Are you?
