A Dilliwala for many generations Writer Documentary Film Maker and Heritage Activist Sohail Hashmi was born in 1950 at Chabi Gunj Nicholson Road in Kashmiri Gate. He studied at DU and JNU gave up his Ph.D. midway to work among slum dwellers unorganized youth head-load workers and shop hands for more than a decade before drifting into the electronic media. He has worked with PTI TV Home TV BiTV and Kingfisher .com rising from script writer to Executive producer and Content Editor Also worked as Media Advisor to the National Literacy Mission aside from researching scripting and producing many documentary films including conceptualization research and scripting of a film on the History of Urdu for the Ministry of External affairs in 2003 shown on Discovery Channel for 4 years. Produced a series of lesser known freedom fighters for Door Darshan and a Journey from Srinagar to Turtuk the last Indian Village in Ladakh for J&K Tourism in 2017.
