The story:
The story of The Nutcracker is set in Germany in the early Victorian era. It features an eccentric uncle, Herr Drosselmeyer, who brings the Stahlbaum children a special, homemade Christmas present – a Nutcracker. At the family’s Christmas Eve party in Act I, Clara and her brother Franz have quite an adventure with the strange toy. Franz and the other party guests quickly lose interest in the nutcracker, but Clara loves it very much. That night, she dreams that her beloved, wooden nutcracker comes to life as a prince; Toy soldiers come to life to help the prince engage in a battle to defend Clara against mice.
In Act II, Clara and her prince dance a beautiful pas de deux along with other colorful divertissements, which showcase dances from around the world – such as Russian, Spanish, and Chinese dances. In the end, it was just a young girl’s dream, prompted by the very unusual gift of The Nutcracker.
The whole family will feel the magic of the Christmas season through this charming and beautiful ballet.
