About this Event
The name of Samuel Burrows may not be all that familiar, but his place in Chester's history certainly is. During his 26-year-long career as the city's hangman, he would be the man who sent criminals from the county of Cheshire to meet their maker in front of thousands of spectators on the gallows of New Chester Gaol.
Join Nick Kevern, the author of The Noose of Samuel Burrows, as we take a closer look at the man himself and explore some of Georgian Cheshire's most notorious criminals and the crimes that would eventually lead them to the gallows.
A must for those interested in Chester's darker past and those who would like to know more about the true crimes of the era.
Following the talk, Nick Kevern will be signing copies of his new book, which will be released on 30th September 2025.
