“The Night Before Gettysburg” is a one-man, three-scene, one-act play, in which Abraham Lincoln finishes writing the Gettysburg Address in his bedroom the night before the speech. He grapples with racism, slavery, war carnage, and the deaths of two of his children. He asks himself questions he can’t answer. Chuck Johnson performs his award-winning play, discusses the history of Lincoln, and answers audience questions.
Chuck Johnson from Perham, Minnesota, wrote and acts in “The Night Before Gettysburg” and has performed it in Gettysburg 21 times in the last three summers. He brings his production to the Brainerd Public Library in conjunction with a grant from the Minnesota Legacy Fund.
