About this Event
Celebrated writer/directors and local filmmakers Koula Sossiadis Kazista and Katina Sossiadis are thrilled to announce their latest project, "The Next Play," a feature film set to be shot in the Lehigh Valley in July 2025. This new film will explore the dynamics of rivalry within a high school field hockey team, delving deeply into the intricacies of friendship, sisterhood, and the unique challenges faced by a closely-knit yet competitive group of athletes. It also aims to shed light on the often overlooked realm of mental health among young players.
In a dedicated effort to highlight and support the mental health of young athletes, Koula and Katina have partnered with several organizations, including Morgan’s Message, The Hidden Opponent, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - Lehigh Valley, Longstreth Sporting Goods, YOLO Sports, Hocsocx, and Female Athlete News. These partnerships will bring valuable resources and authenticity to the film's narrative.
Casting Call for Local Talent: The filmmakers are currently on the search for local talent to join the cast of "The Next Play." This is a unique opportunity for aspiring actors in the Lehigh Valley to showcase their skills and be part of a significant project that addresses important themes relevant to today's youth. They will be looking specifically for six young women aged 18-23.
In anticipation of their new film, this red carpet event at the Civic Theater will include various vendors and a talkback session, offering insights into their filmmaking process and providing more information about "The Next Play." Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the filmmakers and learn about film details and casting opportunities. Musician Galen Derry will perform his debut single, "Anyone Like You." . Local comedians, Colin Coleman and Kate Hughes, will be performing stand up with Hughes to introduce the film.
