About this Event
Founded in 2019 by Ayrshire-based artist, photographer and writer , the Nature Library has toured Scotland since its inception and recently opened for the first-time as a permanent space: housed in one of the ’s shipyard worker tenement flats at 122b Montgomery Street on the scenic Irvine Harbourside.
As well as enjoying the carefully curated works connecting readers to land, sky and sea at the library, visitors are also now able to borrow books, and The Nature Library offers a regular programme of workshops, events and residencies, in addition to featuring a dedicated children’s area.
Please join your fellow CILIPS members as we take a trip to explore this unique new library location - meeting Christina to hear the stories of creativity and courage that have informed the space's development and delving into its growing collections for all ages and stages. In the spirit of Winspiration, our internationally-renowned feminism for libraries programme, we will pay particular attention to Christina's work in curating a nature writing collection with inclusion at its heart, encountering both established and new voices who are shaping the future of Scots sustainability.
Don't miss the chance to visit this iconic site of library-led environmental action. Spaces are limited, so please click quick to register! Attendees are welcome to either gather directly outside The Nature Library, shortly before 11am, or to meet the CILIPS team at Glasgow Central Station and travel to Irvine with us earlier that morning - further details on arrangements will be shared a few days in advance via a pre-event email.
