The Playhouse in association with the National Gallery and Art Fund presents: JEREMY DELLER in Conversation with STEPHEN MCCAULEYSat 30 November at 2pm in the Playhouse Theatre, Derry
FREE ADMISSION but BOOKING ESSENTIAL
Join STEPHEN MCCAULEY (BBC NI) for an exclusive conversation with Turner Prize winning artist, JEREMY DELLER. They will discuss the importance of music, folklore and the public in Deller’s practice, and why his new commission THE TRIUMPH OF ART is coming to Derry.
This will be followed by a screening of EVERYBODY IN THE PLACE, Deller’s 2019 film which explores the parallels between dance music culture and social change in the British rave scene.
Copies of Deller's latest book ART IS MAGIC, published by CHEERIO PUBLISHING, will be available at the event for author-signing and from LITTLE ACORNS BOOKSTORE afterwards.
EVERYBODY IN THE PLACE uses rare and unseen archive materials to map the journey from protest movements to abandoned warehouse raves. We join an A-level politics class as they discover these stories for the first time, viewing the story of acid house from a generation for whom it is already ancient history.
THE TRIUMPH OF ART is a live artwork by artist Jeremy Deller that will first emerge in the city of Derry-Londonderry in Spring 2025. Deller’s work explores social history alongside themes of celebration, commemoration and demonstration in a series of public programme events combining storytelling, music and live manifestations.
Commissioned by the National Gallery, London, as part of NG200 Bicentenary celebrations. It has been developed in partnership with Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, Mostyn in Llandudno, The Box in Plymouth and The Playhouse in Derry. Supported by Art Fund.
