The Music of Grover Washington Jr. & Bill Withers - Celebrating Grover Washington Jr.'s Birthday, December 12th!
Featuring Phillip “Doc” Martin & Steven Garrison
Considered by many to be the founding father of smooth jazz, Grover Washington, Jr. was long the pacesetter in his field. A dear personal friend to our own NEA Jazz Master Todd Barkan, Washington made some of the genre’s most memorable hits including “Mister Magic”, “Black Frost”, “The Best is Yet to Come” with Patti LaBelle and “Just the Two of Us” with Bill Withers.
Lives, loves, dreams and possibilities – all connect in the enduring artistry of Bill Withers, an authentic American musical icon. He had several hits over a career spanning 18 years, including "Ain't No Sunshine", "Grandma's Hands", "Use Me", "Lean on Me" and” Lovely Day”, winning three Grammy Awards and nominated for six more.
Meet #1 Billboard Recording Artist Phillip “Doc” Martin, the doctor and rising star who’s music know no bounds. His melodies paint stories of passion, resilience, and the rhythm of life itself. He had a #1 Song on Billboard "Vibin' In Time Feat. Alex Parchment" and a #9 Song On Billboard "The Doc Is In (The House)”. Phillip has played with the likes of with Grammy Award winner Sam Rivers, Grammy nominee Kirk Whalum, Sunnie Paxton, Marcus Johnson, and Sisaundra Lewis and the Sounds of Soul.
Steven Garrison is a renown saxophonist from the DC Metropolitan area. Steven has been given the opportunity to share the stage with artist such as Regina Belle, Marcus Johnson, Cameo, Trouble Funk, Chuck Brown, Sugar Bear, Chrisette Michele, Bootsy Collins, Gary Taylor, The Manhattans, Tank, KRS One, Anthony Hamilton, Javon Jackson, Sonny Fortune, Jimmy Owens, Hugh Maskela, and Bobby Watson.
