After years of touring with John Malkovich and some extraordinary musicians, performing „The Music Critic,” a performance which highlights the massive discrepancies between the greatest chamber music pieces and their critics, Aleksey Igudesman began to feel that it was time to bring fun and evil to the orchestra
once again.
In “The Music Critic at the Orchestra,” he has put together a compilation of some of the greatest, but most controversial - critically lambasted but hugely acclaimed by audiences - orchestral works from around the world and from throughout musical history.
Music inspired by the likes of Beethoven, Debussy and Brahms is torn apart by John Malkovich. In addition, he hates Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and the much disputed, yet beloved Bolero by Ravel. In this piece, Malkovich himself attempts to take over the conductor‘s baton, claiming that conducting is a profession for charlatans. The fun doesn‘t end there, as the audience then experiences the orchestral version of “The Malkovich Torment,” a piece that Igudesman wrote based on a truly horrific review ...of none other than John Malkovich himself.
