Free to visit 24 hours a day and open to all "The Moving Wall™" is a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, and has been traveling across the country for over 40 years! John Devitt attended the 1982 dedication in Washington, D.C. and felt the powerful impact of "The Wall." Along with Norris Shears, Gerry Haver, and many volunteers, John helped create The Moving Wall™. The first display was held in Tyler, Texas, in October 1984.
Today, two full-size replicas of The Moving Wall™ travel the U.S. from April to November, spending about a week at each location. This memorial offers an opportunity for people to see the names of loved ones who served and sacrificed. Visitors can touch the Wall and make a "rubbing" of any name etched in the panels, providing a meaningful form of closure for families and friends.
Nearly as long as a football field (252.8 feet) the Wall displays over 58,000 names on 74 panels. The names are arranged by the date of death, starting at the center. Volunteers, including Vietnam War survivors, veterans, and family members, will be on hand to help visitors find the names of their loved ones, offering guidance and support on their journey.
The Moving Wall™ is not just a memorial; it's a place for reflection, healing, and honoring the sacrifices made.
