This event pays tribute to Sir Edward Heath’s significant contributions to sailing and his exceptional achievements in competitive yachting. Despite not taking up sailing until the age of 50, Sir Edward famously competed in and won international trophies, marking him as a prominent figure in the sailing community. We have two esteemed speakers lined up for this year’s talks:
Timothy Long
At the age of 15, Timothy Long sailed solo around Britain, at the time the youngest person to do so. In 2022 he joined the Figaro fleet, and is setting himself up now for the 2024 solo “Solitaire du Figaro” race. This is one of sailing’s most gruelling races of over 2000 nautical miles.
His talk will cover how his sailing career started, the races he has participated in, and particular details of his solo round Britain event, and the 2024. “Solitaire du Figaro” race
Peter Forbes
Peter is the proud owner of an Amel 54 cutter rigged ketch sailing yacht. This is a 2006 model which he bought from Sr. Rudi Peroni, the Italian beer magnate. Following a comprehensive refit, Peter then set off on a circumnavigation of the world.
Having given us a previous talk on his circumnavigation, he will now be talking on the subject of “Sailing through canals” in Europe, and round the world, on his Amel 54 ketch.
