What is the legacy of the Minnesota 1st Regiment?Start of the year right by exploring this question with RCHS's Thursday Night Speaker Series! Join RCHS and Gabe Blumer for stories of the Minnesota 1st, including the Battles of Gettysburg and Antietam.
Blumer will be sharing stories of the Minnesota 1st Regiment, including their time at Gettysburg and Antietam. He will focus on key players like William Colvill and the generals in charge who placed the 1st Minnesota in battle.
Blumer is a college student studying history at the University of North Dakota. He was introduced to the 1st Minnesota after visiting Gettysburg. He was amazed by the story and started doing his own research on the regiment.
Last year he covered Oliver Lonkey and his story of hunting John Wilkes Booth in a great talk here at the historical society. Here is a note from Blumer:
"Following the success of the [Lonkey] talk, I wanted to share my research on the 1st Minnesota with RCHS and its community. Over the summer and through my history capstone at UND, I have done a lot of research on the regiment as a whole. The book I found the most important was Richard Moe’s The Last Full Measure. I am excited to share my presentation with you."
Talks are free for members, $5 for nonmembers. Call 507-332-2121 to register!
