About this Event
The River Spey and its tributaries are home to a surprising portion of Scotland's single malt distilleries. The reason for this is multi-faceted. First, the Spey is the 11th longest river in the UK, and serves as one of Eastern Scotland's most crucial commerical thoroughfares. It is also considered to be some of the cleanest and softest water in Scotland - clean, due to efforts to conserve the river's incredible trout and salmon fishery, and soft, due to quartzite deposits at the river's source which prevents minerals from leeching into the river. This makes for some fantastic whisky production water.
Some of the best-known names in single malt draw their production water from these fluvial bodies. Likewise do some of the least-known. This class will aim to emphasize the difference between large, mass-production distilleries, over distilleries that choose to take their time and put forth an objectively superior product.
