The Mighty Orq hits the Continental Club for a rockin' Friday night! Allen Hill rocks All Over the Map to open the show! The Mighty Orq
Since 2002 The Mighty Orq has been performing solo and with his band across the US and Europe. He has won multiple awards, released six albums, and an instructional DVD for solo resonator slide guitar. He is a uniquely talented singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist with a focus in the American Roots Music genres. Always known as a stand-out guitarist and vocalist, over the last 13 years Orq has matured both as a writer and arranger. Where early-on the musical emphasis was on raucous drum and guitar lines, now Orq takes a more song-centered approach letting songs dictate the instrumentation rather than the other way around . New compositions such as “Love In A Hurricane,” “Say It With Silence,” and the Weissenborn instrumental “Cannon Ball” from the forthcoming album entitled “Love In A Hurricane” feature an experienced composer, instrumentalist, and singer beginning to reach his stride.
Allen Hill
When Allen Hill, Houston’s Minister of Fun, enters a room, he brings the party with him — particularly with his world-renowned Allen Oldies Band, which has been covering tunes from the ’60s hit parade since 1996.
Now the unstoppable performer, whose ridiculously fun shows can run upward of five hours, is writing and performing his own songs, releasing his dream rock ’n’ roll record, “All Over the Map,” in 2019. Hill’s single releases include “Beautiful Sounds” and “I Miss You”, and “Downtown Saturday Night” and “Heartbreaks” featuring Paula Nelson on Chicago’s oldest independent label, Pravda Records.
Hill has worked with many of the artists he admires as a back-up band. “I’ve learned so much about songwriting as part of The Allen Oldies Band and working with greats, like Chuck Berry, Archie Bell, Andre Williams, Wanda Jackson, Barbara Lynn and Roy Head, that I was finally ready to make the leap as an original artist” says Hill. Bell makes a guest appearance on the track, “Soul Travels.” “When he was in the studio, I couldn’t believe it.”
