About this Event
Wei Sun is an award-winning artist and the principal guzheng player in the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York. Born into a musical family, she has been playing the instrument since she was a child of 6, and she is a member of both the Chinese National Instrumental Association and the International Guzheng Association. Wei is a certified senior teacher of guzheng, and has performed at Lincoln Center, the United Nations, Columbia University and Merkin Concert Hall to name just a few important venues.
The guzheng is a traditional 21-string instrument first popularized in the Qin dynasty around 221 BC. Sometimes called the perfect balance between a harp and a zither, the sound is versatile and often reminiscent of sounds found in nature. Wei is recognized for her creative arrangements and interpretations of Chinese folk music and classics from traditional Chinese musical literature, adding to the long history of this much loved instrument.
