Torphichen Summer Nights are delighted to invite you to a special one-off concert since our post-pandemic hiatus. Please come and join us on Saturday 11 October 2025, at 7pm in Torphichen Kirk for an evening of Scottish-inspired folk and string quartet classics. Entrance by £5 donation on a first-come, first-served basis (over 18s, accompanied children are free).
The Maxwell String Quartet formed in 2010 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland having met and played folk and classical music together as youngsters.
Having performed at UK venues including London’s Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room, Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, and Perth Concert Hall, and across Europe in Amsterdam, Berlin and Dortmund; the Quartet embarked on a debut tour of the USA in 2019. The tour sold out venues in New York, Florida, California and Washington and they have toured the US annually since.
The Maxwell Quartet are now firmly regarded as one of Britain's finest young string quartets, with a strong connection to their Scottish folk music heritage and a commitment to bringing together projects and programmes to expand the string quartet repertoire.

Everyone is welcome, particularly any young people / budding strings players! There will be refreshments at the interval and a chance to chat with members of the Quartet post-concert, making it a very accessible event all round. This concert is subsidised, so entry is at the special £5 donation price.
The Quartet will also be in Torphichen Primary School for a workshop with the pupils on 13 October, so this is a great chance to get to know their work in advance.
