About this Event
Some mothers see their motherhood as deeply connected to things they do with their body, where both the body and what it does are experienced as female. Trans-inclusivity may be experienced as a threat to this understanding of motherhood.
Join Professor Fiona Woollard, Philosophy at the University of Southampton, for this workshop that will show that not just trans-inclusivity, but inclusivity in general, requires us to recognise that not all mothers have the same embodied experiences. Philosophical research on gender identity shows us how we can validate these maternal identities without erasing others.
Soft drinks, fruit, and cake will be provided through the generous support of the Royal Institute of Philosophy.
Babies and toddlers will be very welcome!
