SONGKET, RECOGNIZED BY UNESCO AS AN INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF HUMANITY SINCE 2021
From October 11-25, the Embassy of Malaysia will host an immersive two-week celebration of Malaysia’s rich artistic heritage and modern fashion, focusing on the exquisite Songket textile—an art form recognized by UNESCO for its historical and cultural significance. This event offers a unique opportunity for D.C.’s culturally attuned audience to explore the beauty of Songket, blending centuries-old craftsmanship with contemporary design.
Key Highlights:
I. Songket Textile Exhibition: A rare display of Songket masterpieces flown in from Malaysia’s National Textiles Museum, showcasing the meticulous art of weaving luxurious fabrics with threads of gold and silver.
II. Art Exhibition: Hyper-realistic works by Dani Omar paired with designs by Sharifah Kirana, creating a visual dialogue between Malaysia’s heritage and its forward-thinking artistic movement.
