The Magic Mandala

A Creative Workshop with Lynda Fish

A mandala is an ancient symbol of wholeness and harmony. This workshop will introduce

you to the beautiful, meditative and self-reflective process of drawing a mandala and give you the

tools to create on your own. If you can write the letters of the alphabet you can draw a mandala!

We will be working on black paper with colored pencils. Have some fun and let your inner artist out.

All art supplies will be provided for your use.

Circular shapes have have been important throughout history:

Sanskrit Circle - symbol of the cosmos

Stained glass windows in Gothic Cathedrals - rose windows are mandalas

A compass with 4 quadrants - gives direction

Stonehenge - dates from the neolithic age

A Labyrinth - a walking meditation has been used throught history

Native American Sand Paintings - for ceremonial events

Yin and yang - T’ai chi - circular Chinese symbol of harmony and the comingling of opposites

Hildegrad of Bingen (1098-1179) Her illuminated manuscripts contained many mandalas

Carl Gustav Jung - drew his first mandala in 1916

Even a snowflake!

About Lynda:

Drawing and painting have always been a part of my life. As

a child growing up, I was always sketching - trying to capture a likeness and an

understanding of the world around me. I went to art school in Boston and worked

as a creative director in advertising agencies and corporations as well as my own

business, but fine art continued to be a part of my life. I now work in acrylics,

watercolor and collage. My art revolves around doors and windows, mandalas,

nature and the abstract. I have an affinity to Wabi-Sabi and appreciate old worn

textures and the beauty of imperfection. Handwriting and postage stamps often

find their way into my work, as I keep a journal and enjoy handwritten letters and postcards.

I LOVE to inspire others to be playful with making art. Join me for a fun and

creative workshop!
