About this Event
Carys Shannon is originally from North Gower, Swansea, and now divides her time between Wales and the Spanish Pyrenees. Her debut novel Truth Like Water - longlisted for the Bath and Mslexia Novel Awards, shortlisted for the Caledonia Novel Award, and winner of the Jericho Writers Festival of Writing Prize - has been praised as “Welsh Noir at its best”.
However, her path to publication wasn't as smooth as it may sound. Carys received interest from literary agents, but they wanted to make changes to her manuscript that didn’t align with the story she wanted to tell. Therefore, Carys took the decision to find a home for her novel herself, eventually signing with Welsh independent publisher Parthian Books, known for championing debut authors, regional voices, as well as literature in translation.
We can't wait to welcome Carys to the stage where we'll ask her about her journey and how to stay true to our creative instincts. We’ll also hear about her experience working with a small press and why that personal, collaborative relationship was the right fit for her book.
