Many of the deepest and most enduring footprints in the Manitoba music scene today are being made by women. In recognition, it is our honour to present Cara Luft, Keri Latimer, Joanna Miller, and Jess Reimer as a band for a one-night stand at the Park Theatre on Wednesday, April 23rd.
Calling themselves Lula Mire (a mash up of the first two letters of each of their surnames), their origin story begins a few months back with a one-song project of Women in Music Manitoba. The mutual respect, admiration, love, and harmonies in the studio were both palpable and contagious and so the idea of a full show was born – The Lula Mire Spring Soirée presented by Wits End and The Park Theatre.
Cara Luft’s long and illustrious career includes pivotal roles in the Wailin’ Jennies and The Small Glories, as well as many other solo and collaborative projects. Currently she is pursuing her passions with ’50 for 50’ – performing 50 shows in her 50th year, often featuring many of her musical friends around the world.

Keri Latimer is the driving force behind Leaf Rapids. Their most recent album, Velvet Paintings, has received huge critical and popular success across Canada. Keri was part of the Juno award-winning band Nathan before Leaf Rapids.
There isn’t enough space for all the good things we have to say about Joanna Miller – if you know, you know. Drummer extraordinaire in many bands, including Leaf Rapids, Ridley Bent, and Scott Nolan; champion whistler, sure; but you might not know she’s also an incredible songwriter and wistfully wonderful singer too!
Jess Reimer sings, writes, and plays upright bass for the Stanley County Cut Ups. Jess’ bass playing runs from the deft touch of a jeweler to the tub-thumping fury of a madwoman. Her voice is a siren’s call amidst the harmonies of the Cut Ups.
