🥾 The Lost Village of Dode 10km / 6 mile circular walk 🥾Overview:
Join us for a gorgeous walk through the Kent countryside, where history, nature, and breathtaking views blend together. This circular walk will take us from the picturesque Holly Hill along the Wealdway to the Lost Village of Dode, before returning via the scenic North Downs Way.
Route Details:
We begin our journey at Holly Hill, a wooded area known for its beautiful vistas out to London on a clear day. The hill is also home to a trig point, one of the many triangulation pillars scattered across the UK, originally used by the Ordnance Survey to map the country. These points offer a fascinating glimpse into the history of cartography and navigation and a nice hidden trig to bag.
From Holly Hill, we’ll follow the Wealdway, a long-distance footpath that stretches 83 miles from Gravesend to Eastbourne. We will pass through the Lost Village of Dode, a hidden gem steeped in mystery. Dode was once a thriving medieval village, but it was abandoned after the Black Death in the 14th century. Today, only the church remains, standing as a haunting reminder of the village that once was. The church has been restored and is now used for weddings and events, but the surrounding area still retains an eerie, timeless quality.
We will make our way back via the North Downs Way, a National Trail that follows the ancient Pilgrims’ Way from Farnham to Dover. This path offers stunning views over the Kent countryside and is a great way to end our walk on a high note

🌄 Terrain: Woodlands and fields. There is some incline to this walk but slowly over the day
🍽️ Food & Drink: Please ensure you have all food you will need and enough water for this walk. We’d recommend 2L. We will stop for a break so please bring some food with you.

🐕 Dogs: Well behaved on lead dogs are more than welcome to this event.
