Well, John Ferris may have retired from the club but he is still actively supporting us by running another Lions Toast Event.
Taking place in association with the Carlton House club, this event will be something very close to every Scotsman’s Heart and that is ‘Money’. Relate that to Whisky and suddenly…..? The next topic for Lions Toast - which will be held on Friday 15th November at the Carlton Club and we hope you can put the date in your diary and come along to join us.
Over the past few years and with little sign of abating, collectable whisky has increased massively in value and that has, not unnaturally seen a significant increase in ‘opportunities’ to make significant gains for an individual looking to invest.
Unfortunately this has seen an even bigger opportunity for the less than honest members of society a new pathway to their riches and a risk for the rest us to help them. Being aware of what is around us is a major ally if we are not to fall foul of some very clever people.
The press and media have been awash with ‘opportunities’, ‘success stories’, ‘massive profits from whisky sales’ and whilst these do exist, the overall steep rise in the value of whisky these days have brought out scammers galore who are simply after their ‘clients’ cash.
In an effort to put some realism into the mix, our next event will be looking at how some people have indeed, made significant capital out of investing in whisky but we will also be looking at the signs to look for in less scrupulous approaches which come daily via the mass media and popular social media.
We will also be giving you an opportunity to try some of the whiskies we have already featured in previous tastings as we begin to “Drink the Dregs” of our, not insignificant stocks of ‘remainders’! To add some meat to the evening, John plans to take you back to Pub food a’ la Glasgow in the 1960’s. A wee bit different from past events but one which we hope you enjoy as much for the social atmosphere as the content.
Please put the date in your diary and when tickets become available, we’ll be back in touch with details of price, menu, times, etc.
PS: If you have a particular favourite whisky from the past, PM us and if John has it, a dram will be reserved for you on a first come, first ordered basis (subject to availability).
