The Lilies of the Midwest are an Irish traditional music trio based in Madison, Wisconsin. Since their formation in 2017, their unique signature sounds of concertina, mandolin, and fiddle inspire audiences with their infectious energy and joy.
Former step dancer Charlene Adzima delights audiences with her driving fiddle-playing, which is influenced by Grammy-nominated fiddler Liz Carroll. Charlene has toured nationwide and notably had a residency at Dollywood.
A student of Solas accordionist John Williams, Kara Rogers is an exciting, up-and-coming squeezebox player. Winner of the 2019 Midwest Fleadh Cheoil on concertina, she has competed in Ireland twice.
Multi-instrumentalist Jeanna Schultz began her mandolin career in college and she hasn't looked back. She is currently honing her skills on accordion under the tutelage of box master David Munnelly.
Special guest Ohio-based guitarist Rick Nelson joins The Lilies of the Midwest as an honorary Lily. His thoughtful approach to accompaniment derives from the playing of Mícheál Ó Domhnaill and Dáithí Sproule.
For over ten years, Slipjig has delighted audiences with their exciting and heartfelt renditions of traditional music from the Celtic nations and Appalachia. Award-winning vocalist, songwriter and fiddler Ruthie McQuinn is joined by Michael Duffy on piano and bodhran and by Scott Pedersen on button accordion.
Ruthie, also a member of the popular Krause Family Band and The Ramblin’ Kind, released her first solo album, “Ruthenium,” in 2023. She has received the Wisconsin Area Music Industry award for Best Ensemble Vocals and the Madison Area Music Association award for Folk Song of the Year.
Michael’s gifted piano playing reflects his family background in Irish traditional music, including accompanying his fiddle-playing father. His flair on bodhran and Irish bones adds excitement to the band’s sound.
Scott started playing button accordion in the 1990s, after a background playing piano in a big band and award-winning piano-accordion playing in his youth. He cites as influences Jackie Daly and Pat Cloonan.
