About this Event
Christianity is in decline; the most momentous change in English history.
'A Superb, lively and erudite book '
Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury, The Telegraph April 2025
Author and scholar, Bijan Omrani, will be in conversation with The Revd Canon Professor James Woodward, Principal of Sarum College to dicuss his critically acclaimed book, GOD IS AN ENGLISHMAN, pubished by Forum earlier in the year.
God is an Englishman is an erudite, tender and timely tribute to Christianity at a time when the Church of England's authority and place in society has been significantly weakened.
Omrani reminds the reader that Chritianity has been central to our national story for almost 2000 years, instrumental in the creation and development of the English nation, its codes of law and morality, and its structures of government and kingship.
He demonstrates Christianity’s profound cultural impact , from architecture and literature to our landscape and the structure of everyday life and language.
He contends that Christianity’s influence has been enormous, and argues that, despite the prvailiing sentiment, it should not be lightly abandoned.
'Omrani writes with colour and clarity … to illustrate how English culture is saturated in Christian teaching and practice'.
Richard Chartres, former Bishop of London, Church Times, April 2025
