?Our Final Goal: $10,000 in One Day! ?Since November 2017, we've raised roughly $240,000 for LGBTQ+ charities. For our farewell event, we're setting an ambitious goal: we aim to raise $10,000 in a single day to make it a cool quarter million dollars raised. This is roughly double what we normally raise. So, we need your help to make it happen. Every dollar you give during this event will directly Uptown Players, an organization dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity through theater and the arts. ?❤️

A Short History - by Marsha DimesIn 2017, Marsha Dimes agreed to compete in the Miss Big Thickette pagaent - the only pagaent that can be bought. Originally launched in the early 1990s to fund an emergency financial assistance program for those living with HIV/AIDS. Now, Miss Big Thickette raises money to support Prism Health North Texas to provide life-saving health care for the LGBTQ+ community. To raise money, Marsha gathered her friends and launched "Marsha & Friends Drag Brunch" at District 30 (where Sushi Axiom is now). Over the next few months, the event raised more than $10,000 and Marsha secured the title of 2018 Miss Big Thickette.
What started as a project to last a couple months continued - and people kept showing up!
By this time, the group of friends became titled themselves as the Sisters-in-Action and many of them started their own fundraising events.
We moved Marsha & Friends Drag Brunch to Cedar Spring Tap House in 2018, becoming one of the very few drag brunches on the Cedar Springs strip. We sold out our monthly or bi-monthly shows until February 2020. In March 2020, we turned virtual and produced some really low-quality Telethons (they're still on Facebook if you want to cringe), and people kept giving. Marsha & Friends Drag Brunch came back in person in 2022 and was delighted to be part of the regular rotation at Hamburger Mary's Dallas starting in 2023.
While we close the chapter on Marsha & Friends Drag Brunch, we still have many events to look forward too, including Marsha & Friends Annual Holiday Spectacular (Dec 9 @ The Rose Room), Queen of the Night (TBA 2023 @ The Rose Room), and Marsha & Friends Fabulous Cruise (Summer 2025).
Marsha & Friends Drag Brunch has been a pillar of our vibrant LGBTQ+ community, a space where glitter meets generosity, and where performances meet meaningful contributions. Over the years, we've proudly raised a staggering $240,000 for LGBTQ+ charities that have made a profound impact on countless lives.
