Among the most beautiful islands in Indonesia is The Last Avatar, a hidden and almost unknown place where its tribes continue to worship the forest as a source of life.The Mentawai tribe still retain the flavor of a very distant and primitive past, living completely oblivious to the rest of the islands of Indonesia, getting closer to the cultures of Polynesia or Hawaii than to their own archipelago.
Considered one of the oldest tribes in the world, they have been isolated for many centuries and represent the perfect harmony and balance between human beings and nature.
The forest is its source of life, its inspiration and the provider of all its needs, since its purpose in life is to be one with nature, integrating it completely. Their animistic beliefs are based on each object or being having a soul, all things in this world have an essence and spiritual transcendence, would it be an animal, a stone, a plant, the clouds or even the rainbow. Before hunting or harvesting any living being, they ask forgiveness for taking its life for their existential purpose.
It is a patriarchal but not hierarchical tribe, since different families live in the same house called UMA, built with bamboo and fully integrated into the tropical landscape.
They have a very refined and elaborate sense of aesthetics always connected with the soul of nature and its own being. The tattoos allow them to take the natural wealth with them to the afterlife and allow their ancestors to recognize them. They adorn their heads with flowers and colored ribbons, while women wear skirts of banana leaves. These in turn are called Dracula women for their sharp teeth that are touched up at puberty.
The Mentawai are one of the last tribal remnants in danger of becoming extinct due to the western influences that are expanding in these small islands.
This is not yet another trip to Indonesia! It is experiencing The Last Avatar.
Trek is challenging – we will take you far from the tourist trail, into the heart of the Mentawai Islands where we will stay and live with the tribe in their traditional way.
Once we are back to shores, we will explore yet another pristine location to relax in a paradise landscape before heading home.
Our journey begins with boat crossing to Siberut - largest island of Mentawai Archipelago.
This is a part of Indonesia that is still isolated. You must be aware and ready for a real adventure, in the village inside the jungle, without comforts of modern world. You will be awarded with knowledge and warmth of the indigenous tribe, which was an inspiration for Avatar movie.

DAY 1 :: PADANG
Meeting at CGK JAKARTA AIRPORT. Domestic flight, arrive in Padang and transfer to hotel. Free time at leisure.
DAY 2 :: PADANG – MUARA SIBERUT – MENTAWAI TRIBE
Morning departure by fast boat to Muara Siberut (3-4 hrs). Upon arrival, pick up of our equipment by local support team. Registration at police station and lunch at the local house in the village.
After lunch, we will reach the harbor to get to our small motorized wooden boat to reach the Mentawai Island (2-3 hrs). First night in Uma.
DAY 3 :: MENTAWAI
Exploring the daily activities of Mentawai Tribe such as fishing, searching for Sago worm (Ular Sagu) or making sago powder (main food of Mentawaian Tribe) and traditional cloths making process. Overnight at Uma.
DAY 4 :: MENTAWAI
Exploring the daily activities of Mentawai Tribe, making traditional tattoo, hunting, fishing and watch traditional dances of Mentawai. Overnight at Uma.
DAY 5 :: MENTAWAI
Our last day with tribe will be about visiting neighbors! We will do short trekking and canoeing to the last Mentawai village. After lunch prepare your bag for sailing back to Muara Siberut and further to nearby island. Overnight at beach resort.
DAY 6:: PARADISE ISLAND
Last 2 days we will spend at leisure, to relax before heading back home.
Today uou can opt for any activities of your choice such as snorkeling or swimming or just take a long walk along the beach.
DAY 7: SNORKELLING TREKKING OR CANOEING
Depending on weather conditions we will decide on the activities, however expect this day to be filled with traditional canoeing, snorkeling, and trekking.
DAY 8 :: PADANG
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and connecting flight to CGK Jakarta.
Level of difficulty: Challenging. This is a travel to the area with limited facilities.
Group size: 8
Activities: Jungle trekking, encounter stone age tribes, water sports on last day.
Cost: AED 7400 excl. flights to Jakarta, including domestic flights.
Recommended flights: 26 NOV EK356 + 05 DEC EK359 at AED 3,125.
Accommo & meals: Included - hotels and tribal houses. Basic facilities ahead. Meals on trail included. Meals outside the trail are excluded.
