During the COVID years, Marie-Louise McHugh began inviting artist friends to paint together on her patio at the Landings in Sarasota every Thursday morning. Once distancing restrictions were lifted, Marie-Louise was approached by Debra Mitchell, Allison Small, and Fern Vaughan, who envisioned a group of Landings artists working together indoors. They proposed meeting weekly in a community room, and once they received permission to use the space during the winter season, word spread quickly.The group soon became known as the Landings Artists Collaborative. No lessons, no rules, no fees—just a weekly gathering of artists enjoying a shared space to work, exchanging ideas, and supporting each other. The group grew rapidly to around 20 members, and by the end of that first season, they opened their doors to share what they had created.
Now in its third season, the collaborative continues to thrive—a vibrant, welcoming group of artists working in many different disciplines. And this opportunity to exhibit beyond The Landings is the icing on the cake! Every Saturday during the month, one of the Landings artists will give a talk.
