About this Event

Join us for a meaningful evening to celebrate 60 years of The Lakes School, reflect on the legacy of our founding schools, and honour the remarkable history of the site; where 300 Holocaust survivors, known as the Windermere Children, arrived 80 years ago to begin rebuilding their lives after liberation from Nazi occupied Europe. The school now stands on what was once the Calgarth Estate, their place of recovery and hope.

Doors will open from 5:00pm, with guided tours of the school, canapés, and an opportunity to view exhibitions exploring the history of The Lakes School, legacy schools, the Calgarth Estate, and the Windermere Children. The exhibitions will also celebrate the amazing work of our current school community and highlight the achievements of our alumni over the decades.

From 6:00pm to 7:30pm, guests will gather in the main hall with highlights of the evening including:

The evening will be hosted by Rob Rinder, TV personality and barrister, whose grandfather was one of the Windermere Children.

A special “Lakes Legacies Live” alumni conversation, featuring:

  • A award-winning director and filmmarker, best known for Brass Eye, Toast of London, and Toast of Tinseltown
  • Estée Lauder’s youngest-ever makeup artist
  • A global sports marketer who has worked with legends including Lionel Messi and Usain Bolt

Musical performances, including:
