“You’ll be charmed. You’ll be dismayed. And then I bet you’ll be as angry as hell at what’s being done to koalas in your name and in your own lifetime. But I hope you’ll act on that rage and be a part of the change that desperately needs to happen.” Tim WintonTHE KOALAS - Exclusive screenings. A film by Gregory Miller and Georgia Wallace-Crabbe.

The Koalas takes audiences on a journey into the lives of individual koalas, led by charismatic characters - Wonnie, Bexley, Tom, Baz, Coral and adorable joeys Hope and Pala. As these stories unfold, we witness the unique characteristics of koalas, their bond with their young, and the wildlife carers they come into contact with. These seven emerge as ambassadors for all koalas facing threats to their ongoing survival.
"Why are koalas facing extinction despite governments announcing new strategies to protect them? Scientists have identified habitat loss as the main culprit behind the alarming drop in koala populations. How is the destruction of their habitat being allowed to escalate at unprecedented rates? Are environmental laws so weak that they can't protect threatened species?"
In south-west Sydney, a significant koala colony is at risk due to a proposed housing development. In Victoria, where the land was cleared earlier than in other states, translocated koalas continue to live in plantations. However, a concern arises when the plantations are harvested - where will the koalas go?
The film celebrates resilience in the face of challenges and invites audiences to become catalysts for change. It resonates with a powerful message: If we can't or won't save this iconic native species, what does it say about us and our future?
"Action comes out of brilliant movies like The Koalas." Bob Brown
"We need action that outlasts different parties being in power." Stuart Blanch, WWF
