An epic new musical is being presented at Artscape Opera House in March. For lovers of glorious music, classical and indigenous orchestration, inspired dance and enthralling storytelling, this one is for you!
A spectacular evening with the CAPE TOWN PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA; the premier 40-strong CPO AFRI-ARTS CHOIR vocal ensemble; an indigenous orchestra led by PROFESSOR EMERITUS DIZU PLAATJIES; and music and opera sensations BONGIWE NAKANI-MCETYWA (Wiener Staatsoper) and ANN MASINA (Soweto Gospel Choir).
Starring Mbuso Khoza (Umkhokha: The Curse), Mbulelo Grootboom (Skemerdans, Niggies, White Wedding), Amanda Seome (Shaka iLembe), and Vuyolwethu Biyela (Sibongile & The Dlaminis). Including pure stage magic with the Sibonelo Dance Project.
When banished heir Nkanyamba unexpectedly returns home, The Kingdom is threatened. His story is one of unresolved roots, personal reckoning, and the weight of a legacy that demands confrontation. This is not just a return. This is a reckoning. Will the King’s wisdom, restraint and unwavering belief in unity hold the kingdom together?
All of South Africa’s official languages, including Sign Language, and incorporating San languages, are celebrated. Each culture is honoured in its full splendour through sound, movement, costume and regalia, creating a grand visual and sonic tapestry that mirrors our shared humanity.
The final moments of this tale of love, power, betrayal, family and leadership dissolve the boundary between stage and seats, transforming the theatre into a shared space of song and joy. You do not simply watch THE KINGDOM OF UBUNTU; you become part of the exhilarating celebration of shared humanity.
