In 1898, Hiram Clay Kellogg built one of the first Neoclassical Victorian homes in Orange County. After his first wife died, he built a mansion as a gift for his second wife, Helen. His obsession with tall ships led him to design a three-story spiral staircase arranged around a central mast with a bottomless crow’s nest. In 1921, Hiram died, but Helen lived another 42 years before she died in the very same home.
