'From night to day'
A programme thematically linked to the passage of the day, including “La Notte” by Vivaldi, Boccherini's “Musica notturna della strade di Madrid” and a medley of Norwegian and British folk songs in praise of the sun.
This year we have also commissioned a new piece by Rachel Stott, which will feature in the programme.
The Kaleidoscope Band was formed in 2019, and is a Norwegian/British early music ensemble with five internationally recognized musicians playing a wide range of instruments. Ingeborg Christophersen (Oslo) plays recorders, czakan, harpsichord and organ, Catherine Martin (London) plays the violin, viola and viola d'amore, Mari Giske, (Oslo) plays various historical violas and the viola d'amore, Alison McGillivray (Isle of Skye) plays the viola da gamba and cello, and Jadran Duncumb (Oslo), lutes and historical guitars.
We are able to offer a broad range of repertoire spanning from 1500 to 1850, all on historical instruments, and in a wide variety of styles. The audience gets to know instruments that are rarely heard together; not only the viola d'amore and viola da gamba but also the czakan (‘walking stick’ recorder from the early 19th century) and many interesting combinations which our unique blend of instruments can achieve.
