As curators of musical delicacies from every corner of the globe, The Just Desserts delight in repertoire from traditions near and far, reinterpreting and sometimes re-envisioning any composition that has enchanted them in their travels. Centered around the unique pairing of accordion and cello, The Just Desserts' deeply original sound incorporates elements of classical, pan-European, tango, Latin, Balkan, Andean, klezmer, jazz, and more. No matter how formal, casual, festive, or performance-oriented the event may be, this eclectic duo makes the diversity of the world's greatest melodies profoundly accesible -and delectable - to diverse audiences in any setting.
The Just Desserts (Lisa Peterson and Michael Shay) have been performing together since 2007. After meeting in Austin Texas, they embarked on years of international touring and collaborations, performing in seven countries on three continents and recording three albums. The Just Desserts now perform in Portland Oregon, the Willamette Valley, and the Oregon coast.
Lisa Peterson is a licensed Music Therapist whose specialty working with dementia and Alzheimers sufferers has seen her to publish multiple songbooks and caregiver resources (https://www.comeonletssing.com). She is also a classically trained flautist and pianist, self-taught accordion player, healing arts practictioner, and singer/songwriter.
Michael Shay is a singer-songwriter and cellist who leads multiple ensembles in Portland, Oregon: Texas Express is a bluegrass band (featuring Annie Staninec and Spud Siegel); The Michael Shay Band is an Americana band featuring pedal steel and 3-part harmonies; Shay also performs on cello with artists in multiple genres and has founded and coordinated family and community music schools in Austin and Portland, and a black-box theater in Quito, Ecuador.
