The JoGo Project is a WAMMIE Award-winning jazz and go-go band from Washington, DC, created by saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed in 2014. Now marking 12 years, the band has become a fixture in the DMV, performing at venues and festivals including Blues Alley, the Kennedy Center, and the DC Jazz Festival, while expanding throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southern U.S. In 2018, JoGo became the first go-go band to perform in Russia on a U.S. State Department cultural diplomacy tour. From 2021 to 2023, the group held a monthly residency at Baltimore’s Keystone Korner, co-produced with NEA Jazz Master Todd Barkan. Most recently, JoGo has expanded its sound with The JoGo Big Band, blending go-go music with big band jazz.
