The most celebrated Jewish novelist of the twenty-first century Jonathan Safran Foer joins debut Jewish novelist Sam Sussman, who everyone is talking about, for a rare conversation about what it means to use fiction to tell the story of our lives, our families, and our Jewish past. Sam Sussman’s Boy From the North Country is a debut novel like no other. An extraordinary story of love, origins, and self-discovery, the book is based on Sussman’s life story as told in his Harper’s Magazine essay, “The Silent Type: On (Possibly) Being Bob Dylan’s Son”. This majestic novel is a love letter from a son to his mother, an astonishingly rare view into the creative life of Bob Dylan, a tribute to the humanistic power of the Jewish literary tradition. Oprah listed Boy From the North Country as her most anticipated debut novel of Fall 2025.
Jonathan Safran Foer is the author of three award-winning and internationally best-selling novels: Everything Is Illuminated, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (both Houghton Mifflin) and Here I Am (FSG) as well as three works of nonfiction: Eating Animals, The New American Haggadah and We Are the Weather. He won The Guardian Book Prize for his debut novel, and his books are published in over 30 languages. His next novel will be published by FSG.
